The theme honors that CAIR has a long and proud history of serving the institutional research community in California. Founded in February of 1971, in Burlingame, CA, CAIR has been a vital forum for the dissemination of information, the exchange of ideas, and the professional development of institutional researchers. Sidney Suslow opened that very first CAIR meeting, reminding us that our National Association was purposely named the Association FOR Institutional Research. Not the Association OF Institutional Research. While this distinction may appear academic, it is an important difference. If we were the Association of Institutional Research, we would just be a room of 400 people who share an identity. But no… We gather at CAIR to lead the field. We promote, progress, and grow the field of Institutional Research in California.
